In Britain, the UK national security adviser said Europe must prepare for a hard winter in order to sustain economic pressure on Russia, tying the endurance of Western sanctions and energy strategy to the broader course of the conflict.

The weekend's fighting moved in two directions at once: Russian missiles and drones reaching Ukrainian cities, ports, and infrastructure, and Ukrainian drones reaching Russian energy sites and other targets far from the front.
